HR Florida Legislative Conference (Formerly Day On the Hill)

On March 27th and 28th, 2019, HR Florida met in Tallahassee to discuss with our State Legislators pending legislation of importance to HR professionals. Bob Carragher, SHRM Vice President Governmental Affairs presented Washington Outlook & HR Policy Update.  Click HERE to view his presentation.

Nearly 90 HR professionals met with state representatives and Senators to share our collective thoughts on over 20 pending pieces of employment related legislation.

  • Florida Legislature.  Learn about employment related legislation pending in the Florida Legislature, including bills and their history.
  • Florida Bar Governmental Relations.  Learn about employment related legislation compiled by the Florida Bar's Governmental Relation's staff, including bills and their history.
  • U.S. House of Representatives and Senate. Learn about pending legislation, including bills, enacted legislation, press releases and daily schedules.

SHRM members can make a difference. SHRM provides a number of resources to assist in advocacy efforts including:

  • Day Inside the Beltway. The Day Inside the Beltway (DITB) program provides SHRM members the unique opportunity to travel to our Nation’s capital for a day of legislative and regulatory meetings and briefings. Activities include meeting with the staff at SHRM's headquarters in Alexandria, Virginia, where staff briefs the members on the issues they will be discussing during their visits to Capitol Hill, as well as how to conduct an advocacy meeting with a legislator or their staff.   SHRM's Member Advocacy Specialist will pre-arrange your meetings on Capitol Hill, as well as accompany you on your visits. Meetings are scheduled for you to visit the offices of your two senators, as well as your member of the House of Representatives.

  • Day Inside the District. The Day Inside the District (DITD) program is a local initiative that provides an opportunity to generate interest and support of issues important to the HR professional on a federal and state level.  SHRM's DITD program affords members the opportunity to organize a variety of in-district meetings with legislators - whether it be at a Town Hall Meeting with the legislator in a nearby venue in their home district, a face-to-face meeting in their district office, or a Capital Day when a state legislator is performing their duties while the state legislature is in session.
