Director, College Relations 
Carol Lang, SHRM-SCP, SPHR


Bio: Carol Lang is currently a Human Resources Consultant with Advancement Associates, Inc.  She has more than 18 years' experience providing HR strategy, direction and support for non-profit and government organizations.  In addition to serving as the Manager of Human Resources & Administration for Miami-Dade Expressway Authority, Carol previously held the position of Human Resources Director for Jackson Health System's International Program and the Jackson Memorial Foundation, as well as Human Resources Director for the Zoological Society of Florida. She received her B.S. from Florida State University and her M.S. in Human Resources Development from Florida International University.

Carol holds the Senior Professional in Human Resources (SPHR) certification and is also certified as a SHRM-Senior Certified Professional. She has been a member of SHRM and GMSHRM for more than 15 years, and has served on the GMSHRM Board of Governors since 2013, most recently as Chapter President in 2018.


Director, Diversity 
Eve Sweeting, MBA, SHRM-CP, PHR 
  Bio:  Eve Sweeting, HR Analyst with Charlotte County Board of County Commissioners, has over a decade of experience as an HR professional in private and public sector organizations. Her current duties include performance management, succession planning, and workforce metrics. She holds an MBA from Florida Gulf Coast University and an MA in Adult Education with a concentration in Human Resource Development from the University of South Florida. Eve is an active member in the HR community having served on the board of Charlotte County SHRM for five years including a term as President in 2012, and completing a two year term on SHRM’s Young Professional Advisory Council (YPAC) in 2013-2014. She is also a proud volunteer for many organizations in her community including Charlotte County Young Professionals, Leadership Charlotte, and Meals on Wheels.

Director, HR Certification
Linda Willey, SHRM-SCP, SPHR


Bio:  Linda Willey, MHR, SHRM-SCP, SPHR, is the Director of HR for Nextran Corporation, with 15 locations spanning three States and 800 employees. Linda has over 15 years of experience in  organizational development, training and development, employee relations, staffing,  compensation, AAP, EEO, and employment law. She holds an MHR from Oklahoma University and graduated magna cum laude from the University of North Florida in Jacksonville, Florida with a BBA in Corporate Finance.   Ms. Willey is an active SHRM volunteer, having served in multiple Chapter volunteer roles, including President of SHRM Jacksonville.  To further serve and advance the HR profession, Linda was selected to be a member of the SHRM Special Expertise Panel responsible for subject matter expertise in the field.  Since 2011, she has volunteered her time to work on the HR Florida State Team in a variety of roles. 

In her spare time, Ms. Willey loves to spend time with her family, horseback riding, training her 3 German Shepherds and quilting.

Director, Legislative Affairs - Federal 
Adriana Barnette, Esq.

Bio:  Adriana S. Barnette is an associate in Ogletree Deakins’ Tampa office. Since graduating law school, Ms. Barnette’s practice has primarily focused on defending corporations and management in state and federal courts in all aspects of employment law.  Ms. Barnette also represents employers in pre-litigation matters before state and federal administrative agencies.

Ms. Barnette earned her Juris Doctor degree from University of Florida Levin College of Law in 2011. During law school, she served as a research assistant, was a judicial intern at the Thirteenth Judicial Circuit for Hillsborough County, and a member of the Florida Entertainment Law Review.

Prior to joining Ogletree Deakins, Ms. Barnette was a law clerk at a national labor and employment law firm in Jacksonville, Florida.  Prior to law school, Ms. Barnette was a paralegal at a number of prominent law firms in Tampa, Florida.

Ms. Barnette was born and raised in Poland and is fluent in Polish.

Director, Legislative Affairs - State  
Amanda A. Simpson, ESQ


Bio: Amanda Simpson is an Associate in the Orlando, Florida, office of Jackson Lewis P.C. Ms. Simpson is part of the firm’s class action practice group. Since joining Jackson Lewis P.C., Ms. Simpson has handled a number of class and collective actions including wage and hour claims alleging claims of misclassification and off the clock work. Ms. Simpson has also worked with clients on Department of Labor audits as well as voluntary self-audits as to exemption status of hundreds of positions.

She devotes the majority of her practice to counseling and defending employers regarding employment-related matters. Ms. Simpson’s primary practice includes representing clients on a broad array of employment litigation, including wage and hour disputes, claims of discrimination based on disability, race, age, national origin, sex, retaliation, sexual harassment, wrongful discharge, and breach of contract actions.

While attending law school, Ms. Simpson was a teaching assistant for legal research and writing and began her career by clerking in the area of general commercial litigation. Prior to joining Jackson Lewis, Ms. Simpson practiced commercial litigation in Orlando and South Florida in federal, state, and appellate courts covering a vast number of practice areas, including employment litigation. Ms. Simpson has successful trial experience both in the state and federal court levels and argued in front of the District Court of Appeals.

Director, Membership 
Janelle Doharty, MS, SHRM-CP, PHR
  Bio:  Janelle Doharty, SHRM-CP, PHR is Senior Director, Human Resources with Interim HealthCare Inc, the nations oldest home care franchise organization. Janelle has been a SHRM member and local chapter member for over 15 years and started volunteering with her local chapter, Human Resource Association of Broward County (HRABC) in 2010 as Membership chair, a position she held for two years. Subsequently Janelle went on to hold the roles of Program director and then 2017 Chapter President. In that same year, HRABC went on to earn both the HR Florida Chapter Excellence Award for Diversity and Outstanding Leadership Excellence. In 2019, Janelle is excited to join the HR Florida council as Membership Director.

Director, SHRM Foundation 
Holly McKay Burnette, MBA, SHRM-CP, PHR 


Bio: Holly holds her M.B.A. with specialization in HR Management. Her undergraduate degree is in Healthcare Administration graduating with Summa Cum Laude honors. Holly is a certified professional with the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM-CP) and a certified Professional in Human Resources (PHR) through the HR Certification Institute. With over 35 years of experience, Holly has demonstrated continual growth in her career including roles as HR Director and the Chief Operating Officer. Holly's educational background combined with her years of work experience in both the private and non-profit environments equips her with the ability to understand the special challenges faced by today's HR professionals. Holly currently works as the HR Director for Tri County Air Conditioning & Heating, Inc. in North Venice, FL. Holly also shares her HR expertise as a consultant with various businesses in the manufacturing and printing industries.

Holly maintains membership in local HR Florida chapters and is a long-standing member of the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM). Holly has demonstrated her leadership ability both in her employment roles and in volunteer efforts by holding multiple board positions including that of President of the Charlotte County Society of Human Resource Management in 2006 and 2018. Holly is the only HR professional since the society's creation in 1992, to receive the honor of HR Professional of the Year for two consecutive years in 2005 and 2006 and a third honor in 2018. 

In her spare time, Holly enjoys time with her husband and family. She and her husband enjoy camping, kayaking, and travel.

Director, Workforce Readiness 
Mike Owens, SHRM-SCP, SPHR

  Bio:  Mike Owens,  a Human Resources Manager with Pen Air Federal Credit Union, has over 25 years of human resources experience in the corporate and healthcare environments.  His wide range of experiences stem from twenty-two years of military service in the US Army with various worldwide assignments.

Mike’s expertise in human resources has been acquired through focus on employee relations, employment law compliance, supervisor and employee education, human resources consulting and training.  He received his Bachelor of Applied Science degree in Resources and Technology Management from Troy State University in Pensacola.

Mike Owens is certified as a Senior Professional in Human Resources (SPHR), awarded by the Human Resource Certification Institute and Senior Certified Professional (SHRM-SCP),  awarded by Society for Human Resources Management.  As a Human Resources Manager,  Mike leads a team that provides human resource services for over 350 employees.

Mike is a member of both the national and local chapter of the Greater Pensacola Society for Human Resources Management (SHRM/GPSHRM) and serves on the board of directors as Immediate Past-President  for GPSHRM.   Mike  has volunteered  his time and leadership expertise as a credit union board member,  ECARE Reading Pals mentor and currently serves on the Board of Directors for Junior Achievement of Northwest Florida.   Mike is also a past adjunct instructor for human resource courses at Pensacola State College.
