HR Certification Preparation Course

For PHR and SPHR Certification

The Pre-conference HR Florida Certification Prep Class is presented by a team of leading HR professionals. Primary focus of the day is key concepts of all the functional areas from the HR body of knowledge. The prep class also offers test taking tips and what to expect on exam day.

Attendees will get the benefit of experienced facilitators, peer-to-peer interaction and a structured classroom environment to enhance learning. You will also have the opportunity to share real world experiences with your fellow HR professionals. Notebooks are provided with all of the presentations and access to an on-line final exam.

Linda L. Bailey, SPHR
With over twenty years of experience as a Human Resources generalist, Linda Bailey, SPHR, is a consultant, speaker, trainer and teacher on many Human Resource issues in various industries. Her consulting practice and expertise covers both crises intervention and continuing management solutions. The focus is on the employer-employee relationship with a goal of “helping employers from needing employment lawyers”. Prior to starting her own consulting practice, her corporate experience occurred in various industries, with a Fortune 300 company, and as a Vice President of Human Resources for a PEO, (a professional employer organization). She graduated from USF with a degree in Business Administration, and is a member of a number of professional organizations, including the National Speakers Association. As a member of the teaching faculty of the Division of Professional and Workforce Development at the University of South Florida, she teaches a number of courses in the Human Resources field and has taught their PHR/SPHR Preparation Course on four of their campuses for over ten years.

Shelley (Shell) Fick, SPHR
Born and raised in California (the other sunshine state!), Shell joined the USAF in 1975 as a Law Enforcement Specialist, stationed in Spokane, WA, and in 1980 she became a Loadmaster on a C-141 and traveled the world. Also in 1980, she met and married her husband, Scott, (yes in the same year!) and moved to Florida in 1983. In 1984, she left the military and began her career at McDonalds, moving up the company to become a store manager and a graduate from McDonald’s Hamburger University. Eventually, Shell left McDonald’s in 1995 and became a fulltime student at Brevard Community College and received her Associates of Arts in 1998 (exactly 20 years from the time she began college in 1978).

Shell went on to receive her Bachelor of Arts degree in Organizational Behavior in 2000 and Master of Human Resources degree in 2002 from Rollins College. In 2005, Shell attained her MBA from Webster University, where she is currently an adjunct instructor at Webster.

Shell has her Senior Professional Human Resources (SPHR), Certified Compensation Professional and Certified Credit Union Executive certification. She is a long time member of both the Society for Human Resources Management (SHRM) and South Brevard Society for Human Resource Management, Inc. (SBSHRM, Inc.). Shell has held the position of Treasurer, President-Elect and is currently the President for the South Brevard Society of Human Resources Management chapter. She also belongs to the Central Florida Compensation and Benefits Association (CFCBA), WorldatWork and American Society for Training and Development (ASTD).

In addition, Shell is currently serving as a board member for LEAD Brevard and recently graduated with the Leadership Class of 2009 (The Best Class Ever!).

Ron Hamilton
Ron is a consultant, business owner, college instructor and a former executive for a Fortune 500 company. Ron is a dynamic presenter combining real world critical business issues in management/Human Resources and his passion for leadership and training. He specializes in talent acquisition/management, leadership development and Human Resources issues.

Prior to starting his consulting practice in 1996, Ron served in Senior Management capacities at CoreStates Financial. He was Vice President and Director of Human Resources at CoreStates New Jersey National Bank and Vice President and Director of Human Resources Services at CoreStates Financial Corp in Philadelphia.

Ron has consulted, conducted training programs and delivered dynamic presentations for large and small organizations throughout the United States, Canada, Mexico and England. His clients range from Fortune 100 companies to “start ups” in a variety of industries including technology, financial services, healthcare, consumer services and non-profits.

Ron earned his M.S. in Organizational Dynamics from the University of Pennsylvania. He is an Associate Professor at Webster University teaching graduate courses in Management and Human Resources and is an author and speaker on a variety of HR and management subjects.

Donald C. Works, III, SPHR
Donald is Managing Partner of the Orlando office of Jackson Lewis LLP where he specializes in all aspects of employment law representing management. Mr. Works is a graduate of Auburn University (B.S., Personnel Management and Industrial Relations, 1977) and the University of Miami (J.D., 1981). Mr. Works is Past President of the Central Florida Human Resource Association and the Human Resource Association of Broward County. A certified “Senior Professional in Human Resources,” he is a regular speaker and has published several articles on wage/hour and employment law topics. For the past three years, Mr. Works has been recognized by his peers in the publication, “Best Lawyers in America.” In addition, he teaches human resource management and employment law classes at Valencia Community College.
