SHRM Certification Class – SHRM-CP & SHRM-SCP

Sunday, August 28, 2016, 9:00AM – 4:00PM

Franz Gilbert, SHRM-SCP, GPHR

Linda Bailey, SHRM-SCP, SPHR

SHRM has spent three years developing a new competency model and this led to two new SHRM certifications, the SHRM-CP and SHRM-SCP. These new certifications recognize that HR professionals are at the core of leading organizational success:

  • Built on one singular Body of Competency and Knowledge (SHRM BoCK™) designed to elevate the HR profession around the world
  • Tests the HR professional’s competency—the ability to put that knowledge to work through critical thinking and application
  • Demonstrates that the HR professional is a technical expert and has mastered the application of HR technical and behavioral competencies, through practice and experience, to drive business results

This certification preparation program covers four knowledge domains: People, Organization, Workplace and Strategy as well as eight behavioral competencies; Leadership & Navigation, Ethical Practice, Business Acumen, Relationship Management, Consultation, Critical Evaluation, Global & Cultural Effectiveness, and Communication. This session is designed to help prepare those who are going to take the test in the fall, or want to get an overview of the material being tested on. The course will be six hours and full of material based on the SHRM body of knowledge.

HR for the New or Nearly New

Sunday, August 28, 2016, 9:00am - 4:00pm

E. Scott Bowers, SHRM-SCP, SPHR, MA

The objective of this six hour pre-conference session to provide the new practitioner with a baseline of information that will help them meet the expectations of their organization.  The program will be aimed at providing the new HR professional with the breadth of information that is required to be effective and an understanding of how to develop the depth that will be expected in their new role.  It will not be an exam prep session but rather a session aimed at motivating and educating the participants on what is expected and how to be a HR professional.  In addition for those individuals who wear many hats within their small organization it will give them a primer on how to maximize their effectiveness and minimize their frustration with their HR duties.

Objectives of this session:

  • Touch on the very complex role HR plays in today’s organizations
  • Give participants practical ways of coping with HR issues as they happen in every organization without fear or panic
  • De-mystify practice and theory of HR and how we can effectively deal with all types and levels of employees in a positive manner
