2011 HR Florida Professional of the Year
In the presence of over 1500 HR leaders at the 2011 State Conference, our award sponsor, Allan Weitzman (a partner with Proskauer Rose LLP) presented the HR Florida Professional of the Year Award to Karen Anderson, SPHR.
In addition to her contributions to her own organization, Shell Point Retirement Community, Karen has contributed admirably to the HR profession as a whole.
As Director of Human Resources for Shell Point Retirement Community, Karen builds respect, credibility and strategic importance for HR within her own organization, the business community, and the local community as a whole. She adds value to her organization - in her role, she reports directly to the President/CEO. She is responsible for the organization's strategic plan, and has just begun a formalized succession planning training and development process with the executive and leadership teams at Shell Point.
Karen has a degree in Human Resources Development with a specialization in Training and Development, and a double minor in Management and Finance. She obtained her SPHR certification in 2009. She has been studying for the GMAT in order to begin an MBA program. She always attends local conferences and training, including the HR Florida Annual conference each year to maintain her certification, as well as staying abreast of all HR issues. Karen has donated countless hours of her time to volunteer for her local chapter (HRMA of SWFL). She also serves as a Board member for Dress for Success and is a well-known media contact for HR issues and news stories. Karen presents community presentations related to personal development, interviewing skills, resume writing, "reinventing" yourself, marketing your image, and growing yourself.
In summary, Karen Anderson represents a true HR professional in her personal values, her behavior, her leadership style, her judgement, and her appearance. She exemplifies the meaning of HR Professional. She is well liked and respected at Shell Point and in the local community. Karen is tenacious, dedicated, and focused on excellence in everything she does.
To that end, we are proud to honor Karen with the HR Florida Professional of the Year award for 2011.
