We hosted our second annual Florida Legislative Day on the Hill on February 16th with 40+ chapter leaders participating and advocating on the Hill. I must extend my sincere thanks to Damian Taylor, Esq., Iggy Garcia, Esq. and Don Works, Esq. our legislative chairs and Carol McDaniel, our Vice President, for all their efforts in putting together this great program.By the way , if you weren’t there, you missed a stupendous event. Check out the pics in an upcoming edition of the HR Florida Review magazine!
Speaking of the HR Florida Review, how do you like the new masthead and magazine formatting? We decided it was time to refresh the mag and make it more relevant with theme-based articles, pictures, and other great information about the world of HR. Kudos to our past editor, Lynnette Hoslinger, SPHR and our new editor, Karen Goodlett, SPHR for their efforts in producing a publication we all can be proud of. Be sure to take a look at our online version as well.
As we announced at the January council meeting, our mission for 2012 is “to shape educated and engaged HR professionals with influence in the field and community.” We’ve been busy doing just that through the four goals we’ve set for this year:
- Continue to Build Relationships with Our Chapters – to develop a collaborative partnership in enhancing the HR profession across Florida.
- Increase Our Membership – to boost the number of HR pros in chapters and in SHRM who can reap the many benefits of membership.
- Offer a World-Class State Conference – to increase the percentage of global HR professionals, from students to senior-level directors, who come to the conference to learn, connect, and engage.
- Advance the HR Platform – to establish HR Florida and its Florida-based HR professionals as the “go to” resource for advocacy and employer-related talent needs.

Finally, don’t forget to register for the April 20th council meeting. We will be offering a special Thursday evening pre-council dinner session (April 19th, starting at 7pm) with Ron Hamilton of Practical Human Resources Solutions on the role of HR in tackling the complexities of ethics. We have submitted for one hour of strategic recertification credit for this session, so you won’t want to miss it. To register for the council meeting and the pre-council dinner session, visit www.hrflorida.org/eventscalendar.
Again, thank you for all you do. It’s YOU that makes our HR Florida successful!
