Call for Articles
We are currently looking for articles and/or professionals who might have an interest in contributing articles focused on any and all aspects of the HR profession for our quarterly HR Florida Review magazine. Don't forget that in addition to our print magazine we also have the online edition for your reference. Please submit your questions and/or interest to email@example.com. The deadline to submit for the spring edition is March 16, 2012.
2012 Chapter Board Rosters Needed

It is very important for us to have this information so we can ensure that our Council Core Leadership Area Directors can communicate with their counterparts in each of our 28 chapters. This resource is provided as a way to share best practices from you along with updates from our CLAs. Wow, what a great state leadership conference we had on January 7th. With over 204 chapter leaders in attendance, the day was chock full of education, networking and of course, fun! Many, many thanks to our president-elect Joyce Chastain, SPHR and our wonderful district director team for working so hard to provide an outstanding conference experience. I for one will always remember to say, yes, Yes, YES!
As we announced at the January council meeting, our mission for 2012 is “to be the catalyst for shaping energetic, educated and engaged HR professionals who have an influence on the profession and the organizations they serve.” To meet this mission, we intend to:
- Build Relationships with Our Chapters
- Increase Our Membership
- Offer a World-Class State Conference
- Advance the HR Platform

GMSHRM Celebrates 60 Years

I am very excited to acknowledge some outstanding news from south Florida. The Greater Miami chapter is celebrating their 60th anniversary in 2012! During their first meeting of the year, they received a video congratulatory message from Hank Jackson, President and CEO of SHRM. Margaret Spence, a Greater Miami board member, tweeted Mr. Jackson about their celebratory year. He, in turn, sent them a congratulatory message which was played for the 120 attendees at the January meeting. In addition, Robert Garcia, President of Greater Miami SHRM, invited several past presidents to attend the 2012 celebratory meeting. One past-president who attended was from 1983!
Congratulations from HR Florida! We thank you for your hard work, dedication and continued support. What a way to kick off the new year! Keep up the great work!

District Director of the Year

For the second consecutive year, an HR Florida State Council District Director is recognized by the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) for having advanced SHRM initiatives and the HR Florida State Council mission. We proudly congratulate Kelly Marcoux, MMC, PHR, the 2011 Southeast Region Territory A - District Director of the Year. SHRM could not be successful without the hard work and support of the volunteer leaders. The District Directors (DDs) are particularly important volunteers, as they are the primary contact in their states for the chapter presidents. SHRM relies on the DDs, like Ms. Marcoux, to provide SHRM membership presentations, support and guidance to chapter boards, and much more. This award recognizes DDs who epitomize the volunteer role.

Day on the Hill
We are pleased to announce our second annual DAY ON THE HILL event in Tallahassee, FL from February 15-16, 2012! We need your help introducing our legislators to HR Florida, educating them how we can be a valuable resource on legislation affecting the workplace, and shaping that legislation of concern to our profession. Attendees at this event will have opportunities to meet with their legislators and/or their staff to advocate on public policy issues of importance to the HR profession. SHRM and HR Florida will prepare attendees for their afternoon meetings on the Hill and will provide assistance in setting up those meetings.

Calling all state of Florida SHRM Chapter Membership Directors! On Tuesday, February 7th, HR Florida will be having a Membership CLA conference call which will provide details on our membership incentie contest for 2012. The only way for Chapter Membership Directors to get information on this exciting program is to participate on the call. Presidents and/or Membership Directors are strongly encouraged to attend.
