Suncoast Membership Success
Suncoast Human Resources Management Association (SHRMA) has an active membership committee. One of the committee’s goals is to recruit and retain members, and they accomplish this in several ways:
- A welcome email is sent to each new member as soon as they are added to the website (which is upon receipt of application/payment).
- Badges are ordered for them at that time so each new member will have a SHRMA badge for their first meeting.
- We greet new members at the meeting and seat them at a reserved table so they can get to know one another as well as our membership committee.
- New members have an opportunity to introduce themselves, and are “pinned” during their first meeting.
Just as important as welcoming new members, is to consider all guests as potential new members. Therefore, after their attendance at a meeting, we follow up with them by sending each person an e-mail thanking them for attending. We also include a “commercial” about the benefits of membership as well as contact information in case they have any questions.
When a member renews, we thank the renewing member with an email. We also call expired members to find out why they chose not to renew. (Editor’s note: By making these calls, you may find the HR professional has left that company’s employ, and this gives you the opportunity to connect with that person’s replacement and invite them to join the chapter).
