First, a big thank you to HR Florida for sending Joyce Chastain, SPHR and Dana Chatelain, SPHR to the SHRM National Conference in late June. I was jealous, jealous, jealous – a paying gig kept me away from all the festivities, but Joyce and Dana both brought back some great info and other things that we can use to continue to shape energetic, educate and engaged HR business professional who have an influence on our field and the organizations we serve. Apparently, the energy out there was contagious, in spite of the heat. A big conference highlight included SHRM making the announcement that “interim” president and CEO, Hank Jackson has been officially installed as the leader of the organization. Best wishes to Hank in his old, ahem, new position!
Of course, August 29-31 is conference time for us here at HR Florida. We’re getting down to the wire now with only a few weeks left! Come join the over 1,300 of your fellow HR colleagues who have already registered to learn the latest and greatest on HR and hear from groundbreakers Tony Hsieh, Lisa Ling and Daniel Pink. News and notes will be posted on Twitter (#HRFL11), Facebook and LinkedIn, so be sure to check it out. Maximize your networking and professional development right here in our sunny home state of Florida and join us for Laissez Les Bons Temps Rouler!
Also, please be sure to register for the council meeting held concurrently with the state conference. This quarter’s meeting will be Tuesday, August 30th from 6-8pm in the Sandlake Room. Traditionally an evening of recognition and celebration, we will be presenting our HR Florida Chapter Excellence, our Professional of the Year and our Volunteer of the Year awards. We also will have several special HR Florida past president guests with us, along with a motivational keynote from SHRM chief global membership officer, Janet Parker, SPHR. Click here to register for the dinner meeting. Please note that if you are a council member, you must attend the council meeting to be reimbursed travel expenses. If you have any questions regarding the policy, please feel free to contact our treasurer, Shannon Lands, SPHR at email@example.com. Don’t worry – we’ll have you out in time for the evening festivities!
And hey, don’t forget that if you are interested in serving as a 2012 volunteer leader on the state council or participate in the state conference planning team, please complete the web volunteer form at HR Florida/About Us/Volunteer Opportunities, or click here. We welcome both old and new volunteers, so spread the word! Position descriptions are listed on the Volunteer Opportunities page.
I can’t wait to connect with you at the conference – see you there…
