General Attendee Information

Thank you for registering for the HR Florida 2011 Conference & Expo!  The following logistical information will be helpful as you prepare to attendee the conference.

Directions to Rosen Shingle Creek

From I-4, take exit #72 (the Beachline Expressway / S.R. 528) to Exit #2.  From the exit ramp, turn right onto Universal Blvd. at the traffic light.  The entrance to Rosen Shingle Creek will be on the right side of Universal Blvd.

Hotel

The times for check-in at the Rosen Shingle Creek will be 3:00 pm and check-out will be at 11:00 am.  In the event that you have to cancel your hotel room, please note that the Rosen Shingle Creek has a (5) day cancellation policy. Cancellations made less than 5 days out will be charged a one night’s room and tax penalty.

Parking

Both valet parking and self-parking are available at Rosen Shingle Creek.  Once you enter the hotel property, self-parking is available on the right.  Valet parking is available at the entrance to the hotel for a fee. Self-parking for HR Florida Conference attendees is free.

Attire

Conference dress is business casual.  Be sure to wear comfortable shoes! Also, while the August climate in Orlando is definitely “tropical,” we encourage you to bring a sweater or jacket—the meeting rooms at the hotel may be cool.

Attend Orientation

If you are a first-time attendee or just want to learn how to maximize your HR Florida 2011 Conference experience, attend Conference Orientation on Sunday at 4:30 pm – 5:30 pm in Wekiwa 6. Discover all the conference has to offer; create a format that fits your personal needs; and design a plan of action to make the most of your conference experience!

Monday Night Welcome Reception

Take advantage of the Expo Hall Grand Opening Reception on Monday from 5:30 p.m. – 7:00 p.m.  Find a great assortment of vendors offering the latest HR products and services and network with your HR colleagues from across the state.

NEW! Flexible Lunch Schedule

This year we are trying something new by running concurrent sessions throughout the entire day. As a result, lunch is available over a two-hour time period. Attendees now have a choice to attend EARLY LUNCH at 11:45 am or LATE LUNCH at 1:00 pm, alleviating a lunch rush. The intent is to create a more pleasant experience allowing attendees to enjoy a leisurely lunch and more time for face-to-face interaction with exhibitors. If you wish to obtain the maximum 14 recertification credits, you must attend sessions during both lunch hours. There is a minimum of 15 minutes between each session, so it’s possible to grab lunch on the go.

Tuesday Night “Laissez Les Bons Temps Rouler”

Let the Good Times Roll!  In the "Big Easy", celebrations tend to be a way of life. Join us at 8:00 pm as we gather round the dueling pianos for an entertaining show featuring Tom Casey (audience singing encouraged) then hit the dance floor as the DJ spins popular dance music. Sample a delicious array of N’awlins treats* inspired from a mix of Creole, Caribbean, African, Spanish, French and Italian influences. Capture the memories of your evening with your own caricature souvenir portrait or an airbrushed tattoo. This is one celebration you won’t want to miss – Laissez Les Bons Temps Ruler! Guests must be 21 to attend. *Light appetizers only, not a full meal.

Kids Against Hunger

Our community outreach for 2011 is Kids Against Hunger, a humanitarian food-aid organization with the mission to significantly reduce the number of hungry children in the USA and to feed starving children throughout the world. In addition to collecting donations to cover the food cost, we will have a food packaging station on Tuesday at 11:45 am in the Panzacola Foyer. Silent Auction

The Silent Auction will be located inside the Expo Hall, Booth 100, in the Panzacola Ballroom.  Proceeds from the silent auction will benefit the SHRM Foundation.  The Silent Auction opens on Monday, August 29 from 11:45 am to 7:00 pm and will re-open again on Tuesday, August 30 from 9:00 am until 4:00 pm.

Visit HR Florida Booth #107 located across from the Silent Auction. Our booth will be the “Hot Spot” this year! Bring your laptop and check email or get help setting up your social media; make a donation to Kids Against Hunger; find out more about local chapter membership; pick up your badge ribbons and conference pin; register for next year’s conference. Or...just stop by to network with us!

The SHRMStore® will be conveniently located outside the Expo Hall in Panzacola Foyer at the Convention Center.  The store will accept credit cards, cash and company/personal checks.  Visit the SHRMStore® for the latest collection of HR books, videos, accessories and related topics.  Take advantage of conference specials and attend author book signings. A book signing schedule will be posted in the bookstore area.

Not a Chapter Member?

Attendees not belonging to a local chapter are invited to learn more about chapter membership. Join Chapter Presidents in a low-key, casual atmosphere Sunday evening from 5:30 pm-7:00 pm in the Conway Room. If unable to attend, visit us in the Expo Hall at HR Florida Booth #107 for more information.

Student Reception

Students are invited to join veteran networkers and long-time members of the HR community for a free reception on Sunday, August 28, 2011 at 4:30 pm in Sandlake. This fun, social event will include an interactive workshop “The VOICE of HR Network” led by Jim Gallo, SPHR, College Relations Director, HR Florida and Joan Ciferri, SPHR, CPC, President of David Wood Personnel.
