I had the privilege of listening to a webinar by Naomi Bloom, and she was praising the availability of cloud computing for the field of HR. If you’re unfamiliar with the term, the cloud is another term for the Internet. Cloud computing refers to having your information or software hosted or stored somewhere else other than your own systems and using a vendor’s software program. It saves you money because you don’t have to purchase the storage equipment to house your data, and it is available on a time-limited contract..
The 2011 HR Florida Conference & Expo will be raising money and awareness for Kids Against Hunger, a non-profit humanitarian food-aid organization that was incorporated in 1999. Their mission is to significantly reduce the number of hungry children in the United States and to feed starving children throughout the world. We are very excited about supporting this incredible organization.
SHRM and Families and Work Institute (FWI) Partnership
The Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) and the Families and Work Institute (FWI) have joined in a major multiyear partnership called Moving Work Forward. A key aim: to transform the way organizations view and adopt workplace flexibility, helping them to become more competitive. The partnership will build on FWI’s When Work Works, a nationwide initiative designed to share research on workplace effectiveness and flexibility, and SHRM’s We Know Next campaign, which aims to highlight the value of HR in business success.

Shaping energetic, educated and engaged HR business professionals who have an influence on our field and the organizations we serve.
Wow, it’s hard to believe that we are already halfway through the year. It seems like only a few days ago we were at the Rosen Shingle Creek for our Leadership Conference – and now in a few short weeks, we’ll be headed back to Orlando for our state conference. It’s the proverbial “time flies” syndrome, isn’t it? Well, we’ve accomplished much and we’re not done yet. Thanks to all of you, we’re certainly going to have a banner year.

We’d like to hear what challenges the District Directors are facing each month within their chapter areas and, more importantly, how each of their respective chapters are addressing and resolving these challenges. Beginning this month, a District Director, guest columnist, or Chapter President will share their insights about how they tackled a not-so-common challenge.
