Kay Wilson, SPHR - Membership Acquisition Director
On Thursday, March 24th, the South Florida SHRM Chapters worked together to co-host a very special event at Nova Southeastern University in Ft. Lauderdale. "Tri-County Connect" brought together HR professionals from across the region to network, celebrate their successes, and much more. The event, sponsored in conjunction with SHRM National, was designed and marketed to introduce SHRM at-large members to the benefit of local chapter membership. Although the at-large membership attendance was lower than hoped, the chapter members, invited guests and vendors alike were treated to an evening of excellence.
The guest speaker for the evening, Jay Forte of Humanetrics, LLC, fired up attendees with “Strategic HR—Move Your Focus from Payroll to Profits”. Author of The Greatness Zone, Jay showed his passion for teaching others how to invent their best life through his three-step approach to becoming a strategic business partner. According to Jay, “The formula to maximize bottom-line results has changed. Today, your people are your profit.” He went on to show us how HR can move from being a cost center to a position as a strategic partner, “capable of inspiring exceptional performance, which drives exceptional results.” I know I will be reviewing, rethinking and responding!
From a personal perspective, as my first “official” chapter visit as one of your Membership Directors, I was blown away by the attention to detail of these chapter event organizers. From the terrific menu to the perfect location to the motivating speaker, this event was a wonderful example of how to do reception well! I particularly enjoyed meeting so many new faces and hearing the great stories and best practices.
There are some incredible ideas coming out of south Florida, and I hope to work more closely with you all to hear and share not only your best practices for attracting new members, but also the challenges you face and obstacles you’ve had to overcome. If you have something that your chapter would like to share with the state, please find me at the State Council meeting next week and we can chat over coffee. Additionally, you can reach out at any time you may have difficulty or want more information, need advice or want to celebrate a success. I’m available, at your disposal, and always ready for some serious coffee talk! You can reach me at firstname.lastname@example.org.
