SHRM has spent three years developing a new competency model and this led to two new SHRM certifications, the SHRM-CP and SHRM-SCP. These new certifications recognize that HR professionals are at the core of leading organizational success:

  • Tests the HR professional’s competency—the ability to put that knowledge to work through critical thinking and application.
  • Built on one singular Body of Competency and Knowledge (SHRM BoCK™) designed to elevate the HR profession around the world.
  • Tests the HR professional’s competency—the ability to put that knowledge to work through critical thinking and application.
  • Demonstrates that the HR professional is a technical expert and has mastered the application of HR technical and behavioral competencies, through practice and experience, to drive business results.

This certification preparation program covers four knowledge domains: People, Organization, Workplace and Strategy as well as eight behavioral competencies; Leadership & Navigation, Ethical Practice, Business Acumen, Relationship Management, Consultation, Critical Evaluation, Global & Cultural Effectiveness, and Communication. This session is designed to help prepare those who are going to take the test in the fall, or want to get an overview of the material being tested on. The course will be six hours and full of material based on the SHRM body of knowledge.

The objective of this six hour pre-conference session to provide the new practitioner with a baseline of information that will help them meet the expectations of their organization.  The program will be aimed at providing the new HR professional with the breadth of information that is required to be effective and an understanding of how to develop the depth that will be expected in their new role.  It will not be an exam prep session but rather a session aimed at motivating and educating the participants on what is expected and how to be a HR professional.  In addition for those individuals who wear many hats within their small organization it will give them a primer on how to maximize their effectiveness and minimize their frustration with their HR duties.

Objectives of this session:

  1. Touch on the very complex role HR plays in today’s organizations.
  2. Give participants practical ways of coping with HR issues as they happen in every organization without fear or panic.
  3. De-mystify practice and theory of HR and how we can effectively deal with all types and levels of employees in a positive manner.

This program has been preapproved for 3 HRCI HR Credits
This program has been preapproved for 3 Professional Development Credits.

Conflict among the team is tough. Conflict, between you and that one employee who just thinks vastly differently than you, can be beyond frustrating. More than dealing with a difficult person, this session walks you through the conflict resolution techniques and puts the value back in brainstorming. Learn how to still make their opinion count and leave them feeling like they can contribute to your efforts through acceptance, curiosity, communication, and tolerance of those who seem to challenge your every move. Part of our Contagious Leadership™ series on how to become a better leader, this session will focus on how to resolve conflict, prevent it from erupting, and still get the result you need without letting resentment breed. If you have team members you want to meet “out back” and give a “piece of your mind”, but would rather save the time and use the gems that spring forth from their oh so different mind, this session was designed with YOU in mind. In Conflict: When Their Opinion is VASTLY Different and Why it Matters™ you’ll learn valuable steps for processing and preventing conflict, but also why a little disagreement is powerfully creative. Their opinion, and yours matters, and when you can make the most of both, your results will improve and you’ll stop searching for a position on another team to which you wish that employee would move!

Objectives of this session:

  1. Learn how values-based communication can strengthen strategic relationships with key individuals in an organization.
  2. Learn how to effectively convey an organization’s core values, vision, mission, and ethical behaviors with values-based communication methods
  3. Learn how to effectively reinforce an organization’s core values and behavioral expectations through values-based supervision and coaching.

Aircraft that travel faster than the speed of sound are said to be flying beyond Mach, or supersonic.  Organizations that are insightful before they communicate to their employees are said to be deploying MOC (“Managing Organizational Change”).  They too can be supersonic in that they get ahead of their sound – they strategically plan their messaging beforehand to optimally effect change.  This session will introduce Values Science, and its Nobel Prize nomination credentials, and show attendees how people may be inspired to consider things they otherwise would be unwilling to consider.

Objectives of this session:

  1. Learn how values-based communication can strengthen strategic relationships with key individuals in an organization
  2. Learn how to effectively convey an organization’s core values, vision, mission, and ethical behaviors with values-based communication methods
  3. Learn how to effectively reinforce an organization’s core values and behavioral expectations through values-based supervision and coaching
