Description:

A web log, otherwise known as a blog, is an instant publishing tool that anyone can use to add fresh content and information to a web page. Almost anyone can create a blog or add comments to an already-existing one. Research estimates that blogs are growing at a rate of 3,000 per day-currently over 10 million, more than double the number one year ago.

For human resources professionals, blogging can be a tool to improve both internal and external communications and a cost-effective way to start a conversation with-and get instant feedback from-employees, customers and stakeholders. Blogs are a natural for HR professionals who have news and regulations to keep up with and pass on to employees or clients.

On another front, blogs are becoming increasingly popular forums that employees use to express their views regarding the workplace. Previously constrained by traditional methods of communication, employees are now turning to the Internet and electronic bulletin boards to broadcast their complaints globally. This new communication medium raises questions for human resources, such as privacy concerns and freedom of speech.
