1:00 PM - 4:00 PM Project Management Made Simple: A Practical Guide for Human Resources Professionals

The cost for this session is $95. Room: TBD Seating is Limited. Onsite registration is not available for pre-conference sessions.

Project Management Made Simple: A Practical Guide for Human Resources Professionals
In organizations that want to be the best, the biggest obstacle to success is the absence of execution, i.e. the ability to get things done. To bridge the gap between the aspirations of leadership and the actual results achieved, it is essential that organizations have an effective method for successfully completing projects and an area that the majority of HR professionals seem to be lacking. This practical, hands-on workshop will focus on the best practices for project management with a straightforward, user-friendly model that was designed for HR professionals who are not experts in project management. In addition to reviewing a methodology that can be used immediately to implement strategies that effectively utilize organization's resources to maximize competitive advantage, attendees will receive an array of concepts, explore project management’s role in HR strategy, and practice applying the information.

Learning objectives include:

  1. Identifying and describing the key activities in the project life cycle with the coordinating terminology
  2. Keeping projects on track by developing a timeline, managing risks, and using a communication plan
  3. Capturing valuable "lessons learned" and using them to improve future practices within your organization.

Presenter: David Kahn, Ph.D., SPHR, Manager of the Organization & People Development for the Palm Beach County Clerk & Comptroller's office

Social Media for Human Resources Professionals
Confused about Social Media? Skeptical about the utility of all the technology tools and buzzwords as they relate to your HR career and practice? If you’ve been feeling dated with technology or haven’t had the time to dig into the social media scene, this workshop is for you.

Register today and join us for this hands-on session! And, don’t forget to bring your laptop with you.

For three (3) hours, you’ll not only learn more about social media tools but actually get started in getting the tools set up and functional. You’ll get warmed up with the “Top 10 Reasons HR Pros Should Invest Time in Social Media Tools”, then start the process of getting signed in, set up and advancing your functional knowledge of the most popular social media applications:

  • Google Reader (used to follow news sources, blogs and anything with an RSS Feed)
  • Twitter (a micro-blogging platform used to stay connected, network and share info)
  • LinkedIn (a business networking site especially useful for recruiting and personal networking)
  • Ning (a Facebook-type application for use in communications with employees and candidates)
  • Facebook (of course, you know this one. We’ll explore the best way to use Facebook with employees and candidates alike)

Once you’re set up, then you will have the opportunity to explore roadmaps and case studies of how the tools can be used to make your jobs (and lives) easier:

  • Enhance your employee communications platform and employee relations efforts by using the digital tools to enhance or replace traditional paper tools like employee newsletters;
  • Dress up your employment brand and subsequent recruiting efforts to the outside world by developing a digital presence across the social media tools candidates can access;
  • Find passive candidates in talent pools you desperately need by becoming part of online tribes using the tools in your workforce planning efforts;
  • Maximize your professional development by customizing the tools to deliver the information you need, allowing you to stay ultra-current within the HR profession.
  • Register today and join us for this hands-on session! And, don’t forget to bring your laptop with you.
